After lunch, we move up the canyon over the polished, windswept sandstone.
This particular area of sandstone has eroded into this incredible surface texture.
Sam and Alex feel like they are standing on the backs of ancient turtles that have been frozen in time.
The canyon splits into a south and north fork.  We decide to head up the south fork over a series of short slot canyons and dry waterfalls.

This dry waterfall wouldn't be so dry during one of the heavy monsoon thunderstorms that the Southwest is so famous for.

Art and Kim look for a little shade in the relentless heat of the afternoon sun.
Art examines a great example of these sandstone fins that are carved by the sand blowing in the wind.
After reaching the top of the south fork of the canyon we traversed north along the headwall and move down the north fork.
